MEET YOUR TUTOR

I’m Liam Ross, founder and DJ tutor at On Beat. I’ve been a professional DJ since 2012 and have been teaching DJing since 2017. Over the years I’ve worked with hundreds of students across different levels, goals and genres, helping complete beginners and self-taught DJs develop the fundamental skills needed to perform confident, professional DJ sets and ultimately giving them the tools and knowledge to practise, progress and achieve their goals.

My teaching approach focuses on getting the fundamentals right and staying true to the craft. I put a strong focus on learning to develop your own style and DJ properly rather than relying on shortcuts. Above all, my goal is to make your learning journey frustration-free, detailed and informative, teaching the correct fundamentals that work on the dancefloor so you can practise with assurance and perform with confidence.

MY DJ JOURNEY

I learned to DJ at the age of 13 on vinyl. My cousin showed me the basics and, although it was difficult, it built my foundations in the hardest and best way possible. I quickly became obsessed with the technical side of DJing and spent most of my teenage years practising constantly in my bedroom, driven purely by a love for the craft.

At age 16 I started playing on pirate radio stations in London, which led to house parties, bars and clubs. In 2013 I moved to Liverpool and began DJing professionally, playing everything from student events to warehouse raves. Over time I built a reputation in the city as a skilled DJ who could both open for headline acts and confidently play peak-time sets.

By the age of 20 I was playing to sold-out crowds of over 2,000 people. For a DJ with no music releases at the time, this was a rare opportunity. It led to supporting multiple world-renowned DJs across genres including tech house, disco and garage, and opened the door to bookings across the UK, Europe and major festivals such as Defected Croatia and Parklife.

In 2021 I launched a new artist project, 'Lekota', releasing music in collaboration with Joel Corry, signing with Atlantic Records and producing official remixes for MNEK, Becky Hill and Jax Jones. I also toured the UK & Ireland supporting Joel Corry, held two summer residencies at Ibiza Rocks, Miami Music Week and featured guest mixes on Kiss Dance, Diplo’s Revolution and Defected Broadcast House.

In 2023 I stopped the Lekota project to focus on a new music project and to build my Fundamentals DJ course, designed to help aspiring DJs learn the art properly.
